WHAT IS CHIROPRACTIC?

Chiropractic is the most popular, natural, drug-free healthcare system in the world. Chiropractors see the human body as an integrated whole and not as separate systems working independently within the body. The goal of chiropractic is to correct spinal misalignments called subluxations. These subluxations are often painless spinal stress areas that can affect organs, muscles, nerves, discs, posture, and health in general.

Today, chiropractic is the third largest health profession after medicine and dentistry.

While chiropractic has been around as a separate and distinct profession for more than a 100 years, the concept behind chiropractic has been used for centuries. Historians believe that it was first practiced as far back as 2700 BC by the ancient Chinese, as well as the Egyptians, Hindus and Tibetans.

The great Greek physician Hippocrates, who recognized the importance of spinal health was known to have said: “Get to know the spine for this is the cause of many diseases.”

Many people today associate chiropractic with only helping lower back problems. While it is helpful with those conditions, the reality goes far beyond treating lower back pain. The brain controls and coordinates the many functions (breathing, digestion, circulation, hormone release, elimination, etc.) of the body. It does this by sending electrical nerve impulses down the spinal cord and out to the nerves that directly connect to all areas of the body. Spinal subluxations cause irritation to these sensitive nerve structures which can result in abnormal function and eventually disease to the area supplied by the affected nerve. The connection between spinal abnormalities has been confirmed in autopsy studies.

Chiropractic’s goal is the removal of these areas of spinal nerve irritation. Chiropractors are specially trained to analyze your body for these subluxations. Using specific chiropractic adjustment techniques, your chiropractor gently and painlessly corrects your subluxations, releasing the spinal nerve stress and naturally helping with the healing process.
