What is gentle chiropractic?

gentle chiropractic adjustmentNew clients occasionally tell us that they’ve put-off visiting a chiropractor out of fear that adjustments may be painful, the sound of cracking and popping seems scary, or even that chiropractic care seems a bit mysterious.

We understand. It’s natural to feel anxiety about anything new and unfamiliar, especially if someone is unfamiliar with chiropractic care.

At Back2Health, Dr. Jeffrey Meyers specializes in ‘gentle chiropractic,’ a style of care that focuses on specific, gentle, low-force techniques that work with the body’s natural healing processes and minimizing possible discomfort or pain during or after a treatment.

What is gentle chiropractic? It’s a style of chiropractic designed to correct misalignments and improve overall joint function that uses minimal force and makes treatments more comfortable.

While some patients and conditions may be better suited for ‘higher velocity’ adjustments, gentle chiropractic can be effective for treating a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions, including neck and back pain, headaches, and joint stiffness. It is often ideal for children, elderly individuals, or those suffering from osteoporosis or other pre-existing conditions, where traditional treatments may be too forceful.

Several of the gentle chiropractic tools and techniques we utilize include:

  • ArthroStim device: This works like an extension of the chiropractor’s hands, applying gentle, controlled, and rapid force to precise areas of the patient’s body. Operating at a frequency of 12–14 ‘taps’ per second, the ArthroStim device delivers rapid vibrations to stimulate the tissues and help reduce muscle tension and resistance. It can be useful for the promoting joint mobility, reducing pain, and treating soft tissue injuries like sprains, strains, bruises, tendonitis, bursitis, myofascial pain, or whiplash. We also find it effective for correcting misalignments and reducing pain in the spine and other joints.
  • Drop table: A specifically designed chiropractic table with sections that correspond to different parts of the body, such as the pelvic, lumbar, thoracic, and cervical regions. A specific section of the table can be elevated, and then dropped slightly as quick pressure is applied, creating a gentle stretching motion in the spin. This allows for more gentle, controlled, and targeted spinal adjustments.
  • Soft tissue work: Can include therapies such as massage, myofascial release, or trigger point therapy, which complement spinal adjustments.
  • Comprehensive care: We offer a holistic care approach which could include rehabilitative exercises and lifestyle recommendations to support overall health and well-being.
At Back2Health, we tailor our treatments to the patient’s preferences and needs.

While gentle chiropractic treatments may not suit all conditions, they’re effective, safe, and comfortable options for many patients, tailored to the individual needs and their treatment goals.
